Overview of ISNM 2005

This year, ISNM 2005 will be held in Europe by the University of Cyprus. The objective is to interface the international nanomanufacturing community with the researchers, resources, industry and other support mechanisms in Europe and worldwide. Cyprus is an emerging leader in manufacturing among the European nanotechnology community, with mass production facilities for carbon nanotubes, nanocomposites and nanosensor development. The University of Cyprus was awarded several Marie Curie programs in ultrasonic nanomanufacturing, computational nanofluidics and nano heaters in 2004-2005, and has made major investments in nanofiber, nanocomposite and nanosensor-related research. ISNM 2005 in Europe will also follow up on the successful NSF-European Commission Workshop on Nanomanufacturing and Processing held in San Juan, PR, in January 2002.

ISNM is an attempt to gather two disparate groups – nanotechnology and manufacturing – within a single forum. The goal is to foster interaction between the well-established manufacturing community and the newly emerging nanotechnology community. ISNM actively promotes international participation and precompetitive research and educational collaborations.
